Mitra Karl Brunnhölzl, MD, Nalandabodhi and Nitartha Institute
Dr. Karl Brunnhölzl is a Mitra, an authorized senior teacher of Nalandabodhi who is deeply involved in the curriculum development and teaching of both the Nalandabodhi and the Nitartha Institute curricula. Mitra Karl, a physician, received his training in higher Buddhist philosophy at Kamalashila Institute, Germany, and with Khenpo Rinpoche at the Marpa Institute for Translators. Since 1989 he has served as an interpreter, translator and teacher worldwide.
Beginning with translations of Khenpo Rinpoche’s texts, Dr. Brunnholzl has written many books and translations: The Center of the Sunlight Sky, Straight from the Heart, In Praise of Dharmadhatu, Luminous Heart, Gone Beyond, Groundless Paths, The Heart Attack Sutra, Mining for Wisdom within Delusion, When the Clouds Part, and others.
At Nalandabodhi and Nitartha Institute, students can study a wide range of Buddhist topics with Mitra Karl Brunnholzl. He has said that while he is enthusiastic about all facets of the dharma, his main interests are the teachings on Mahamudra, Yogacara and Buddha Nature. He aims to make the essential teachings by the Karmapas and other major Kagyu lineage figures available to contemporary Western audiences.
