Sahle O Project
The Sahle O Project, a charitable organization devoted to the activities and teachings of Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, is creating a bridge between Eastern and Western ways of thinking, by using contemplative arts, philosophy, meditation and social action.
It began in 1992. Soon after meeting Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, Dian Denis was told to complete a pilgrimage:
Women need to start a strong lineage of meditators. It would be good for you to find the cave of Sahle O. I don’t know if it still exists, but if it does, you should sit there, even just an hour, that would be very good, Rinpoche said.
Inspired by this great Yogi, Diane left for Tibet with a short letter of introduction and a powerful sense of purpose and enthusiasm for this connection to a women’s lineage.
Our Commitment in Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan
In collaboration with the Marpa Foundation and the Women’s Foundation of Nepal, our objective is to encourage quality education for women; in particular, we support higher education for Buddhist monastics as well as laywomen in the Himalayan region. All people involved in our charitable activities are volunteers; 100% of donations go directly to women supported by our sister organizations.
Our Commitment in the West
Our efforts include the study, translation and teaching of texts, organizing pilgrimages, and the practice of contemplative arts. Our aim is to create opportunities to connect with the Dharma and Rinpoche’s wisdom lineage through the development of ethical conduct, awareness and wisdom.
Talks and retreats programs are offered all over Quebec, English Canada, Europe, the United States and in Asia. Beginning in 2017, Diane has been teaching in Boddhanath, Nepal, for Kathmandu University.
Some of our programs are scholarly while others take place in an informal setting.
The Wandering Yogic Wisdom Art Festival (WYWAF), for example, is an enjoyable time to share the Dharma through singing and dancing vajra songs.
The WYWAF take place each summer, when we are together in nature and simplicity sharing our meditative practice through art. It is a time to be initiated into the spirit of Rinpoche’s yogic approach.
Sahle O’s Hermitage
In the lineage of Milarepa, one may be inspired to take time for a retreat in an isolated place for intensive practice. Sahle O Project now has two retreat cabins on a beautiful 13 acre wooded lot in Quebec and is set up to provide a conducive environment for these needs. May it give rise to profound insight and realization. For more information, contact sangha.sahleo@yahoo.ca.
