What Mind Is

Sugar candy tastes so sweet,
But just hearing about it won't give you that taste
Think all about it, but you still won't taste
If you want to taste, you have to use your tongue.

It's the same with the essence of mind:
Another person can point it out to you,
And you'll understand it, but won't see it yet,
So take that knowledge and look yourself.

When you're introduced to native mind,
Take what you've learned and look for yourself,
If you look, you'll see it for sure,
Oh shepherd boy, work with mind like this.

Sung to the shepherd boy Sangye Kyap. Tibetan page 291.
